Who are we?

For over 30 years, Signpost has been working to improve the quality of life for unpaid carers in Stockport. We are a small charity and couldn’t do our work without the support of our volunteers.

From office work to walking groups, there are lots of ways you can get involved, which you can find here on the website or by getting in touch.

Volunteering at Signpost can be a great way to meet new people, help the local community, learn new skills and build your experience. We support the Community Champions initiative run by Sector 3, which is another route to developing your skills.

Who can volunteer with Signpost?

We have an inclusive volunteering policy at Signpost and welcome applications from everyone, irrelevant of background.

Do you have a special skill?

We’re open to hearing from volunteers who want to share their skills and interest with our carers. Let us know if you have any particular ideas.

We are currently recruiting the following voluntary positions:
  • Carers Drop-In Group Volunteers – Multiple locations: Our drop ins are located across Stockport, on different days and times. They all involve meeting and greeting carers, setting up the room, serving refreshments, mingling, and clear up. This role is a great opportunity to provide carers with a safe space to get information, relax and connect with others.
  • Ad-hoc Activities/Events – Multiple Locations: We hold various events and activities as part of our Wellbeing and Therapeutic Hub work. This offers an opportunity for people to see a variety of things that we do and really appreciate people that can be flexible with their time, or sometimes be available at short notice.
  • Community Outreach Work: As we continually seek to raise our profile. We’ve identified a need for volunteers for support running stands at events and similar. It’s an actual ‘Signposting’ role and could potentially involve collecting donations, etc. and gathering information about new carers that want to interact with us.
  • Dementia Drop-In Volunteers: We like to have a presence at different events around Stockport, including the Dementia Drop-Ins. As such, we are looking for individuals to attend these events to represent Signpost. Whilst knowledge around dementia isn’t essential, the role will involve chatting to carers about their experiences and recording any enquiries they may have to pass back to our staff.
